Blog Submission Guidelines
PURPOSE
The purpose of the AASP Blog is twofold: (1) to be an educational resource within the AASP website by offering interesting and timely topics for a public audience (athletes and other performers, coaches, and parents), and (2) to promote the expertise of AASP membership by providing them with opportunities to write posts.
If you are an AASP member and have content for sport and performance psychology practitioners, teachers, and researchers, please consider submitting to the AASP Newsletter. You may contact the Newsletter Editor for more information.
AUTHOR REQUIREMENTS
To submit a blog post, authors must be an AASP member. Undergraduate students who are AASP members must have a sport psychology professor or supervisor review and sign off on their work prior to submission.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Readability
- Posts shoud include one idea per paragraph, descriptive headings (as needed), bulleted lists, avoidance of excessive or unexplained jargon, and a strong take-home message or closing paragraph
- Posts should be applicable to and understood by a public audience (e.g., athletes and other performers, coaches, and parents)
- Read this for examples of how to make a post readable for the web
- Length
- Posts should be approximately 500 – 800 words in length
- Informed by scholarship
- Content should be in-line with current research
- Providing a small number (maximum 3) of key references is encouraged
- Fairness to Membership
- Posts are not for individual promotion, but to promote the field and educate the public
- Clarity
- Content should be clear, coherent, and consistent throughout
- Professionalism
- Posts should be written professionally and follow the AASP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards
- Multimedia
- Links
- Content can include relevant links to other pages, either within the AASP website (preferred) or to external resources and websites
- Links should provide more information on the particular topic and not be used for direct monetary gain (e.g., linking to your book on Amazon)
EDITING AND PUBLISHING
Minor edits may be made to submissions for spelling, grammar, and/or adherence to American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition style. If revisions beyond editorial are necessary, feedback will be provided to the submitting author(s).
If republishing the content elsewhere (e.g., author’s own website), please link to the AASP blog post by including, “Originally published on Association for Applied Sport Psychology Blog.” If the content was published elsewhere first, AASP can link to and credit the original source. Please note that self-plagiarism will not be permitted; content submitted must be original content. Authors will have the opportunity to provide a link to their own website in the author biography section.
SUBMIT A BLOG POST
Members can submit blog posts at any time. The submission form is also linked from the member dashboard under Publications: "AASP Blog: Submit an Article". There are four submission deadlines throughout the year after which submissions will be reviewed:
- January 31
- April 30
- July 31
- October 31
