Students' Center
Welcome to the student section of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) website. As you browse through this section you will not only be exposed to the students who have taken on leadership positions within the Association, but more importantly, you will see all the excellent projects and ideas that have been primarily spearheaded by AASP student members.
Students represent about 40% of the total membership of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), but students are 100% of its future. As a result, student members in AASP are excellent in teaching, research, service, and applied aspects of sport and performance psychology with the intention of becoming qualified and competent professionals in this field.
If you are new to the organization or looking for resources to learn more about sport and performance psychology, its possible applications, or other student development materials, we suggest you visit our video resources page.
Why Join AASP?
If you are not yet a member and want to become involved in the organization, we encourage you to join! To become an official student member of AASP check out the Membership Benefits and Membership Types and then click on the "Join" button if AASP seems like a good fit for what you're looking for in a sport psychology organization.
Student Member Benefits & Engagement Opportunities
Being a member of the organization allows an opportunity to meet other individuals passionate about the field and develop both personally and professionally. We encourage students to be active within the Association and, below, we have outlined a number of opportunities for student engagement. If you have any questions about the information contained in this document, please send your inquiry via email to: info@appliedsportpsych.org.
Join a Special Interest Group
Participating in AASP's Special Interest Groups (SIGs) is a great opportunity to work with other AASP members who are passionate about a focused scholarly and/or professional practice topic. In addition to being recognized on the website, SIGs host in-person meetings at the AASP Annual Conference. If you are interested in joining a SIG, reach out to the coordinators listed on the website for membership information.
Attend an AASP Regional Conference
Regional conferences are meetings in which attendees can network with other members of the organization and are student-oriented to provide a cost-effective conference experience. These conferences also provide an avenue for students to gain experience hosting and/or presenting in a conference environment. Learn more about the upcoming AASP regional conferences in sport psychology, abstract submission, and registration in the AASP Events Center.
Become a Conference Abstract Reviewer
This is a great way to learn more about the evaluation process and it is a wonderful sign of service to your organization. The call for abstract reviewers is circulated in late January/early February. To become a reviewer, simply log into your AASP member portal, change your status in the “Reviewer Profile” page to “Yes, I can review abstracts for AASP!” and you’re all set! Reviewers are typically asked to review 10-15 poster abstracts in March shortly after the general call for conference abstracts closes.
Serve as a Student Volunteer at the Annual Conference
Each year the organization requests the help of student members at the AASP Annual Conference. Here is your chance to interface with professionals in the field, as well as other student members from all over!
Join a Committee
Several AASP committees include student members who are interested in getting involved. This is a wonderful way to learn more about the Association. Please search through the committees listed on the AASP website; and, if you are interested in joining, submit an inquiry to info@appliedsportpsych.org. An AASP team member will contact the Committee Chair to determine if they have any openings for new student members and then follow up with you.
Become a Student Delegate
The AASP Student Delegate positions are a 1-year commitment. Student Delegates must be current AASP members. Delegates are responsible for participating in their assigned Student Initiative(s), providing support at student programming during the Annual Conference, and other duties as assigned by the current Executive Board Student Representatives. Learn more about applying to become an AASP Student Delegate. The application period opens after the Annual Conference and closes in mid-December each year.
Remember, an organization is only as strong as its members. Moreover, the longevity of a field is dependent on its upcoming members—the students. So please browse this section to learn more about who we are, what we do, and how you can become more involved in the organization.
