Graduate Program Accreditation Standards

September 25, 2024 (Indianapolis) - AASP’s Graduate Program Accreditation Committee (GPAC) is pleased to release Graduate Program Accreditation Standards as well as the Initial Application, Fee Schedule and Accreditation Program Policies & Procedures. All documents were adopted by the GPAC on April 26, 2024 and are effective immediately.

Establishing an accreditation process for graduate programs in sport and performance psychology is a seminal goal of AASP’s current Strategic Plan and will complement our push to provide resources to assist graduate programs in improving design, training, and delivery of their curriculums. Accreditation standards have been organized within the following 8 core areas:

Institutional and Program Context, Program Mission and Goals
Professional Values
Program Resources
Learning Outcomes, Competencies, Knowledge, & Curriculum
Students
Faculty
Evaluation and Outcomes
Communication Practices

It is important to emphasize that standards related to curriculum were developed to align with the current requirements for Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) certification.

The GPAC will begin accepting applications for accreditation on January 1, 2025. The first step, explained on pages 6-8 in the Accreditation Policies & Procedures, is to complete and submit the Initial Application to AASP for GPAC review.
